Embassies of African Union (AU) Member States in Denmark celebrated 50 years anniversary of African Union on October 20th, 2013 at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The main administrative capital of the African Union is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the Africa Union Commission is headquartered.
The vision of African Union is to have “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena”.
Some of the representatives at the event described some significant cooperation that have brought unity between the African countries and the people of Africa. Although some admitted that there are still some challenges in the continent, majority pointed at the upward trend in economic growth and the significant progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
Ambassadors of all the African Union member states in Denmark, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, including representatives from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union member states in Denmark and many dignitaries were in attendance.
Activities during the day included a football match between teams from Embassies of AU and EU member states in Denmark, short speeches, photo exhibition – “From OAU to AU”, musical performance by Dawda Jobarteh “Northern Light Gambian Night” and a presentation of Afrowood film festival.
Her Excellency, Ambassador Monique Ilboudo of Burkina Faso, who is also the Dean of African Ambassadors in Denmark, shared her view about the AU 50th anniversary with Afroscandic. You can listen to her views in the video above.
