Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) achieved independence from France on the 5th of August 1960 while 11th December 1958 commemorates the day that Upper Volta became an autonomous republic in the French Community. Burkina Faso is located in West Africa with an area of 274,200 sq km.
The independence anniversary is observed in Burkina Faso by National Flag hoisting, marching and parades in front of the president. The heroes of liberation are also remembered during the independence celebration.
In Denmark, Her Excellency, Ambassador Monique ILBOUDO hosted some Ambassadors of other Embassies in Denmark, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, and friends of Burkina Faso as the country celebrates her 53rd years of independence.
