Free massive open online courses at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden’s foremost medical university and one of Europe’s largest and most prestigious medical universities to start in Autum. In a press release on Monday, the university said they would offer MOOCs (massive open online courses) to students worldwide, regardless of background or qualifications.
Jan-Olov Hoog, Dean of Higher Education at the univsersity, said that the move is intended to meet the global demand for high quality education. Jan explained further ”The new online courses are possible through a collaboration with the international education group edX. It is a non-profit group which started as a collaboration between Harvard University and MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology”.
Karolinska Institutet works alongside a formidable group of highly ranked universities such as Berkeley, Toronto University and McGill University. Dean Jan-Olov Höög also has high expectations for the courses starting this autumn: “I see a huge number of spinoff effects in MOOC (massive open online courses).
