The International Lady’s Club, Copenhagen, celebrated its 3rd anniversary in November 2013.
Ronke Adeyemo, Afroscandic’s media manager, was at the event. She spoke with the President of the club, Victoria Douglas, and asked her about the mission of the club and they were celebrating the 3rd year in a grand style.
Afroscandic gathered that the club was founded in 2010. They currently have 7 members from different nationalities and membership is open to all women, irrespective of colour, age and background. The purpose of the association is to extend hands of support across to the less privileged such as widows and orphanages all across Africa. The association when interviewed by Afroscandic emphasised that they were willing to help as many African needy people as possible. They also welcomed organisations and individuals that would like to partner with them to fulfill this objective.
When Afroscandic asked the President how they financed the operations of the club, she said that they used their personal resources to run the club because they want to contribute to the improvement of the livelihood of the poor in the society. They mentioned that they currently have a less privileged, motherless children, and orphanage home in Benin City, located in Edo State, Nigeria.
They expressed their desire strongly for partnership with corporate bodies, businesses and governments to support their mission of improving the plight of widows, orphans and the poor in the African society.
