The Association of Yoruba in Denmark (AYOID) marked this year’s Easter celebration with sparkling glee on Saturday, the 23rd of April, 2011 in Uplandsgade, suburb of Copenhagen. The event which had in attendance the creme de la creme of AYOID members from all over Denmark and Southern Sweden provided a great opportunity for guests to exchange generous and warm compliments after a very long frigid winter. They all clad in their best attires with their family members to grace the occasion.
The event started around 6 pm, with an opening prayer from Pastor Samuel Akinremi of the Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C Mount Zion), Copenhagen. In his brief prayer, he exalted the Almighty God for sparing the lives of the members of the association and that of their families and for fulfilling His promises on them in the land of Denmark. Shortly after the prayer, President of the association, Kayode Ogunniyi (a.k.a Sir Kay), declared the party opened by welcoming guests including new members and their friends to the get-together. He thanked them for sparing time out of their very busy schedule to grace the occasion and also mentioned that the gathering would afford new members an opportunity to get acquainted with the grand Yoruba family in Denmark.
Guests were treated with various delectable foods and drinks, with utmost liberty to serve themselves and select their choices from the variety of sumptuous dishes and assorted snacks made available at the occasion. Special programmes were organised for the kids, many of whom dressed in Yoruba traditional attires and were in celebration mood throughout the occasion. Sesan Amosu, Master of Ceremony at the event poked out some hilarious jokes at guests at interludes. DJ Taiwo, a famous Nigerian DJ in Denmark was also on hand to spin out the best from the latest Nigerian music chart. Guests could not resist the melodious tunes oozing out from the various loud speakers, strategically placed in the hall, as they took to the dance floor with friends and family members to wag their bodies. There was an added romantic splendour when couples began to hold up in tangos to dance to the latest Nigerian love songs. The arrival of more guests and their friends from the Nigerian and African communities in both Denmark and Sweden into the arena further added sparkle to the party and lasted into the early hours of the next day.
As guests began to leave in trickle towards the tail of the party one could not but recognise the success recorded by the members of the Association of Yoruba in Denmark (AYOID) at this year’s Easter celebration.

Quite commendable and a welcome development to show case Africans in the Scandinavia.
Would suggest a broad based ethnic nationality that cuts across African countries.
More importantly, the Ambassadors of various African countries should be part of this vision.
Keep the flag flying and God bless.
