Angola will next week host the 56th meeting of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission for Africa and the Regional Seminar on Tourism and Air Connectivity in Africa to discuss tourism development on the continent, according to APA.
The meetings, to be attended by ministers responsible for tourism in Africa, would be held in the Angolan capital Luanda from April 28-30. Angolan Hotels and Tourism Minister Pedro Mutindi is expected to officially open the 56th UNWTO Commission for Africa meeting.
The meeting is held on an annual basis and provides African countries the opportunity to discuss and debate at the highest level about the most important issues related to tourism development in the region.
Current commission chairperson and Zimbabwe’s Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi is expected to table for discussion issues such as an anti-poaching initiative for Africa, funding for African tourism development, the image of the region, and other issues that are high on the UNWTO agenda for the region.
The theme for the meeting will be “Tourism and Biodiversity: Zero Tolerance for Poaching in Africa 2020.”
The Regional Seminar on Tourism and Air Connectivity in Africa is expected to address critical issues related to bridging air transport and tourism policies, including the current regulatory framework, taxation, and the way forward in facilitating travel processes.
