If you are someone who loves to travel around the world, you can be certain that you will love to explore Scandinavia. Scandinavia is made up of a group of several countries having common cultural traits. These countries are Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The region has a very long and rich history that draws many travellers to it. Around 900 to 1000AD, the region was made up of small kingdoms that came together to form the different countries. In everyday communication, Danes more or less understand Norwegian and Swedish and Norwegians understand Swedish and vice versa, as the languages all share a common root. As with any popular travel destination, English is a secondary language to many of the locals as well.
Denmark is a beautiful nation where nearly everything can be reached within a few hours of driving. Denmark has over four hundred islands. No matter where you find yourself within the country, you are never more than thirty miles away from the sea. One of the most popular tourist destinations for those looking to explore Scandinavia is the Frederiksborg castle, which currently houses Denmark’s most treasured collections of artwork and artifacts. The castle is now known as The Museum of National History.
Finland is a great destination any time of the year and is known for its beautiful scenery, not to mention the Northern Lights that appear around two hundred times a year. The Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress has many very unique sights open to the public, including the King’s Gate, which is made up of limestone and marble nearly two stories high.
When you explore Scandinavia, you would not want to miss a chance to venture in the beautiful nature that Iceland has to offer. The lagoons, waterfalls, geysers and hot springs over old lava are something you would never forget. People of all ages have always appreciated the beauty and relaxation one enjoys in these locations. Norway and Sweden are both very appropriate choices for those interested in hiking, climbing.
Whatever may interest you when travelling the world, you can be sure that if you take the time to explore Scandinavia, you will find a wide variety of the things that you love; everything from beautiful architecture, rich culture, collections of artwork a thousand years old, delicious cuisine, and beautiful nature can be found in Scandinavia.
