The man that is behind the hit song ”Aicha” will be back in Copenhagen, Denmark for another round of great music performance to entertain the audience at the popular Amager Bio.
Khaled Hadj Ibrahim, better known as Khaled, born on the 29th of February, 1960, in Sidi El Houari, Algeria, is a rai singer, song writer and a multi-instrumentalist.
He has become the most internationally famous Algerian singer in the Arab World and across many continents. His popularity has earned him the unofficial title ”King of Rai”. His famous sogs are ”Didi” , ”Aicha” , and ”C’est la vie”.
Rai is a form of folk music that originated in Oran, Algeria from Bedouin shepherds, mixed with Spanish, French, African and Arabic musical forms, which dates back to the 1930s. The music style appears to young people who sought to modernize the traditional Islamic values and attitudes.
Regional, secular, and religious drum patterns, melodies, and instruments were blended with Western electric instrumentations. And the songs are usually characterized with controversial topics such sex, alcohol and love that are difficult for the Algerian youths to get involved with.
Khaled’s music career took a turn when he left his native country and moved to France. He released an album in 1991, called ”Khaled” . This gave him stardom in France and among the North African immigrants around the world. Since then, Khaled has gathered a teeming audience and recognition on the international music scene.
His songs have become extremely popular in the Arabic-speaking countries and also in France, Belgium, Spain, India and Pakistan, where it got into the top musci charts.
He has won many music awards including, the World Music Awards, Grammy Jam Awards, and MTV Europe Music Awards among many others.
